The report on “Oil Theft in Nigeria” released on July 31, 2018 by the Nigeria Natural Resource Charter revealed that Nigeria lost N3.8 trillion in 2016 as a result of oil theft. This loss exceeded the combined budgetary allocations to the health and education sectors in the 2018 fiscal year. Indeed, the rate and frequency of oil theft have increased in the last four years, posing renewed threat to Nigeria’s economy.
