Gunmen Kill Two Police Officers, Cart Away Rifles in Delta

Unknown gunmen have reportedly killed two police officers attached to Ofuoma Police Division, in Ughelli North Local Council of the state, and carted away their rifles. The Guardian learnt that the hoodlums exchanged gun duels with the police officers who were conducting a stop and search at Okoruwe street by Winners junction, Ekredjebor- community on Friday night. A police source gave the name of one of the deceased officers as one Ujeyah Matthew, while one Sergeant Ijebu, who was injured, was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
 
The source said: “There were heavy gunshots along Ekredjebor road, Ughelli, by Okoruwe street (Winners) junction. Two men, suspected to be policemen, were seen lying lifeless on the road. They were gunned down by men suspected to be robbers, none of the deceased officers had guns with them, an indication that the criminals may have gone away with their rifles.” Also, a community source told The Guardian that a detachment of policemen and vigilante members were drafted to the area to fish out the suspects dead or alive. Recall that a police inspector, hoodlums, recently abducted Ifeanyi, and his corpse was discovered 24 hours later in Evwreni forest. When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, said he was not aware of the incident, but a senior police officer, who did not want his name mentioned, confirmed that two police officers were shot dead near Sokaje hotel, Ughelli, while one Sergeant Ijebu was receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

MEANWHILE, operatives of the Crack Squad attached to Delta State Police Command have arrested 34-year-old Queen Uwagbogu, for allegedly dealing on illegal sales of AK47 in Warri . Spokesperson for the Command, Bright Edafe, who confirmed the arrest said the suspect was arrested on May 18, 2023, at about 18:57hrs, through what he called an actionable intelligence gathered about the woman. Edafe said the operatives raided her premises near Effurun Roundabout, Warri, and recovered 100 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition from her.
  
The image maker also stated that operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS), on stop and search at Oworigbala community along Okpara-Oworh road Ughelli, flagged down the driver of Lexus RS 350 black in colour with registration number RBC 811 CY, but the driver suspiciously offered the operatives money, which they rejected. “The driver immediately zoomed off, noticing that the RRS operatives were on his trail and closing in on him, he quickly abandoned the vehicle and escaped into a nearby bush. The vehicle, a battle axe and two iPhones were recovered from him,” Edafe added.
