The development was an effort by the Taskforce to enforce the directives given by the State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya closing down all gala houses across the state and banning their operations based on public outcry about their operations. The Taskforce team which was led by its Chairman, Group Captain Bitrus Bilal (Rtd) said that the team will not spare any gala house within and outside the metropolis as the demolishing of the five houses was just the beginning. He stressed that, the taskforce has the intention of going round the Eleven local government areas of the state to ensure that all such identified houses no longer exist in the State. The Chairman further said that checks at the relevant authorities revealed that all the gala houses have not secured building approvals from Gombe State Urban Planning and Development Authority (GOSUPDA). He maintained that, “Lack of approval alone, can give us right to demolish such houses. In addition to that, our findings revealed that none of the houses has operational license from appropriate authorities, and the worst part of it, is that their activities are against the norms of our society”. The Chairman also said that Governor Inuwa Yahaya has received a lot of appreciation from religious leaders across the state as people were disturbed by the indecent activities of the gala houses. “So both Muslims and Christian leadership has appreciated the governor’s concerned in this dangerous places that threaten the future of our teenagers in the society, especially the female teenagers,” he added. The Taskforce Chairman further said that, “If you see what we found in such houses, you too will appreciate the Governor and support our efforts in sanitizing the state of this poisonous activities”. He also said that the houses also served as hidden places for criminals to lodge when they unleashed their heinous and criminal activities on society. “I want to tell you, destroying such places will even improve security, and most of our teenagers who derail from such activities will eventually repent and start a decent life in the society. So this has save them from becoming societal destitute,” he added.
