Dilemma of Climate Change and Violent Conflicts

by soluwajobi

Armed conflicts have affected millions of people in Africa, reducing access to basic services, economic opportunities, humanitarian aid and climate change resilience efforts. As climate change conditions and security worsen, more people face life-threatening circumstances. While interventions to support the vulnerable population may be inadequate, unstable environments due to armed conflicts further constrain available humanitarian and climate change interventions. Since these limitations remain largely unaddressed, the vulnerabilities of those caught in the armed conflict and climate change web deepens, predisposing them to more harsh realities.

This edition of the Nextier Policy Weekly examines the intersection of climate change and security needs in Nigerian hotspots. It further elaborates on the necessary steps to circumvent the dilemma.
