According to the spokesman of the Ministry of Defence, Henshaw Ogubike, this is part of the strategies being put in place to address the raging security challenges, particularly on the highways.

Ogubike quoted the Minister, Abubakar Badaru in a statement on Tuesday to have said that the provision of the surveillance systems along the Abuja-Kaduna highway would also cover the railways. Badaru disclosed that the eight-man committee would fast-track their assignment and that they must deliver within 18 months in order to check the frequent security challenges along the route.

According to him, the committee, which has its members drawn from the ministry, the Services and other security agencies is headed by the Director Joint Services Department of the Ministry of Defence. In his remarks, Badaru expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to deliver tangible results, reinforcing the government’s commitment to addressing security concerns on major transportation routes.

He pointed out the terms of reference included ensuring the equipment for the installation of the security surveillance system meets the technical specification as well as suggesting any other measure necessary for the successful implementation of the system.
