Weekly Reports NIGERIA VIOLENT CONFLICT WEEKLY SPOTLIGHT by soluwajobi May 8, 2023 written by soluwajobi May 8, 2023 94 Sixteen Nigerian states recorded 25 violent incidents that resulted in 67 casualties (death and injuries) and 15 kidnap victims between the 30th of April, 2023 and the 6th of May, 2023. There was a 46.4 per cent and 62.5 per cent decrease in casualty and kidnap counts, respectively, compared to the previous week. Kebbi is the focal state for the week, with 36 deaths due to a bandit attack on the civilians and security forces in Zuru Local Government Area of the state. Niger state has the highest violent incident tally, with five cases involving bandits, security personnel, and civilians. Edo state has the highest number of kidnap victims, with 12 people from one incident. Banditry is the review week’s focal violent conflict, with ten incidents resulting in 43 casualties and two kidnap victims. Gunmen violence was second, with seven casualties and 12 kidnap victims from five incidents. North Central Nigeria is the most troubled region for the week, recording nine violent incidents, which resulted in seven casualties and one kidnap victim.
