There have also been clashes between protesters and the police in informal settlements in Nairobi. The government has deployed security forces to quell the demonstrations called by opposition leader Raila Odinga, but this has only served to further inflame tensions. The Interior Ministry and Inspector of Police have termed the protests illegal. President William Ruto is curently on an official visit to Belgium and Germany.
