Policy Weekly The Sit-at-home Protest: Its Impact on Education by nextierspd October 25, 2021 written by nextierspd October 25, 2021 118 The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ordered a sit-at-home be taking place every Monday with effect from 9th August 2021, in protest of the detention of their leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. This order warrants a total close down of all activities in the South East, both in the private and public sectors. Being reputed for commerce and trade, the sit-at-home is costing the economy of the South East region 10 billion Naira for any single Monday that economic activities are shut down. But one important sector that is equally significantly affected by the weekly shut down is the educational sector. For this briefing, thrust is given to basic education and senior secondary school. Hence, this edition of Nextier SPD Policy Weekly reflects on the range of challenges to the basic educational and senior secondary school in the light of continuing implementation/observation of the sit-at-home order.
