News Reports Troops Rescue Two Aid Workers Abducted by ISWAP Terrorists in Borno by soluwajobi May 5, 2023 written by soluwajobi May 5, 2023 96 Two out of the three humanitarian workers recently abducted by ISWAP terrorists in Gamborun-Ngala, Borno State, have reportedly been rescued by troops of Operation Desert Sanity 2. The rescued aid workers are staff of Family Health International, (FHI360), an international non-governmental organization providing humanitarian support to Internally Displaced Persons, (IDPs) and resettled communities in Borno and other states within the northeast region. Multiple reports indicated that the two aid workers were rescued during a gun battle between the troops of 21- Armoured Brigade, Bama and the terrorists in the Banki axis of Bama Local government area. Sources also told Zagazola Makama, a security analyst in the Lake Chad region that, the victims jumped out of one of the vehicles of the terrorists and quickly identified themselves to the troops while one other staff ran into the bush amidst heavy shootings. It was, however, learned that two security guards abducted alongside the aid workers who ran into the bush are yet to be found. Recall that an unconfirmed number of ISWAP terrorists stormed the FHI360’s gusts house in a silent operation at about 4am on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, and whisked away three humanitarian workers and two security guards. As of the time of filling in this report, FHI360 has yet to release an official statement on the rescue of its staff.
